"You have to be enough in touch with who you are and what you want, how you want to live and what's important to you, to make your decisions based on that.” according to Hillary Clinton.
As you know, finding the answer to "Who am I?" is never easy. You need to go through a very long process of working with your inner world, as well as spending time to discover yourself. But once you have passed that stage, there will be many sweet fruits waiting for you ahead. By understanding who you are, you can easily exploit your strengths, forge your weaknesses to develop your potential. Not only do you identify your role and values in society, but you can also make important decisions faster yet still be confident with those choices.
However, anything too much is not good. Possessing a solid personal identity also has its disadvantages as follows:
The first is the "excessive" in focusing too much on yourself. Sticking to one point of view will make you forget or intentionally ignore other essential things. It might be difficult for such individuals to open up to new ideas, refuse to accept diversity in the community, or even lack empathy for people around them.
Secondly, once an individual has fixed his or her own identity, it becomes challenging to change those inherent thoughts. If the individual has already established himself as a pragmatist, he or she will most likely analyze their choice to help others only from a self-interested perspective. Or, for a person who considers his identity to be conservative, that individual will always blame "identity" instead of changing or learning to listen.
“Shaping Personal Identity” is a double-edged sword. Along with the confidence it brings, we also need to consider other aspects that will amplify how you perceive yourself or unintentionally indulge your feelings. In addition, labeling yourself can help you connect with the community you belong to, but it can also become a barrier to the development of each individual.
Shouldn't the work of "Revolutionizing" the crisis stop here?
In the treasure of folk songs and proverbs of the Vietnamese people, there is a sentence as follows: "A flow will have an ebb". After all, we humans must constantly change to develop. The opinions or ideas you think are right today may be different with the times.
On the contrary, if there is no change, humanity will not experience four industrial revolutions and possess an advanced and modern civilization. The development journey of an individual always goes along with the development journey of humankind. The two words "Identity" are not only limited to a specific individual but also the cultural value system of the entire community. “Finding Identity” is a threshold you must cross, but learn to Balance, Harmonize, and Moderate it.
The "Identity Revolution" is a long and challenging process, but indeed also very interesting. As a challenge that everyone has to overcome on their development journey, the time is in your hand; go ahead and explore your potential.
With the last 4 articles, 𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐱𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐔 hopes that they have partly brought readers new perspectives on this "crisis" that sounds obnoxious but is not obnoxious at all. 𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐱𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐔 hopes that you will always try to keep a cool head as well as a flexible and multi-dimensional way of thinking. Be yourself but don't forget that each person is a tiny thread that weaves the fabric of society, and together we sew the Shirt of the future.
